How Much You Can Save in 12 Weeks Using Simple Savings Challenges

If I told you that you could save R600, R1,200, or even R2,400 in just 12 weeks, without cutting groceries, cancelling school activities, or living on noodles, you’d probably assume there’s a catch. NO CATCH!

I created a savings guide that can help you do just that.

It includes a choice of 11 savings challenges which allows you to EASILY save money throughout the year but in short, focused 12-week sprints.

why Savings Challenges

They're fun and they compel you to stick to the challenge rules.

Seeing your money pile up reinforces the habit of saving, and makes you want to keep going.

Savings for 12 Week sprints works because it feels manageable and you have quick wins.

How Much Can You Save in 12 Weeks?

Here are real-world examples from 2 of the 12-Week Savings Challenges available in our guide:

1. The 12-Week Savings Challenge

Choose and save the same amount every single week for 12 weeks, and repeat throughout the year.

  • R10 per week → R120 saved by week 12 (R520 in 12 months)

  • R20 per week → R240 saved by week 12 (R1,040 in 12 months)

  • R50 per week → R600 saved by week 12 (R2,600 in 12 months)

  • R100 per week → R1,200 saved by week 12 (R5,200 in 12 months)

  • R200 per week → R2,400 saved by week 12 (R10,400 in 12 months)

2. The Wallet Savings Challenge

Here you commit to save a specific denomination found in your wallet instead of spending it. For example, for the next 12 weeks I choose to save every R20 note I can get my hands on instead of spending it.

Realistic 12-week outcomes:

  • R5 coins → Between R180 and R300

  • R10 notes → Between R240 and R360

  • R20 notes → Between R240 and R720

In 2025 I chose to save every R20 note I got my hands on (okay, almost every R20 note). Doing that gave me a very needed R3,060 by the end of 2025 without changing spending habits or hacking my budget to pieces to try and find extra money to save.
